Uncle Woodard
Woodard Donald Watson the second child of Eli Jasper Watson, Jr. and Malinda Josephine Nations Watson, was born on December 13, 1886 at Kilmichael, Mississippi. Uncle Woodard died to the day only one year later on December 13, 1887. He is buried at the Poplar Creek (Nations) Cemetery south of Kilmichael. Aunt Nina, the eldest child of Eli Jasper Watson, Jr. and Malinda Josephine Nations Watson, named her only son Woodard Wesley Pearson in memory of Woodard Donald. You may note that she gave the name to her son as his first and the second name of her husband, Wesley, as his middle name. Woodard Pearson was called “Woodard” by friends and family all his life.
Yours truly remembers mention of Uncle Woodard repeatedly as he grew up. His brothers and sisters never forgot. You may visit his well marked grave beside those of his father and mother at any time that you should visit the cemetery there.
